This game follows the 98 Championship of the World of GP motorbike racing with 500cc bikes raced by the likes of Michael Doohan, Max Biaggi, Alex Creville.

GP500 gives you a choice of the 14 circuits raced in 1998, the real riders and 6 different bikes (the V2s and V4s, and the Modenas KR3 V3).

Kenny Roberts Jr. tested the bikes' physics models, so they are very accurate to drive, making GP 500 an accurate simulation not suitable for beginners.

There are 5 different difficulty levels. In the beginning, you are limited to a small number of race tracks. Once you make it to Grand Prix mode, you can

race the entire season on 10 of the 16 official race tracks. Your competition consists of about 30 experienced riders on various makes and models of 500cc motorcycles. Races take place all over the world including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Australia and on famous tracks such as Donington and Suzuka. Playing through the Career mode will unlock more tracks for the Time Trials and Quick Race modes.

Customizations include the ability to assign the controls to your preference, color choices for your bike, helmet, leathers etc., importing your own custom soundtracks, and other upgrades which are unlocked with ability points you earn as you win. Graphical effects like weather changes, variable lighting, cheering fans and on-track competitor animations have been added for realism.

Multiplayer is split-screen for 2, 3 or 4 players as well as LAN play.

Grand Prix 3 aims to be a complete simulation of the 1998 Formula 1 World Championship, and features all the tracks, teams and drivers. You can practice the racetracks (which is recommended to learn their layouts and work on car setup) or compete in single races or the full championship.

Each race weekend has practice and qualification sessions, and the lengths of these can be customized, as can the skill level of the opposition drivers. There are 7 driving aids available, including automatic brakes and gears and an indestructibility option - as you race at higher skill levels, less and less of these are available.

Car setup is done in precise detail, with the chance to change wing settings (trading off grip against straight-line speed), brake balances (affecting how the car handles under braking) and gear ratios (trading acceleration off against top speed), as well as more complicated ones like packers, dampers and the ride height - the manual explains it in considerable detail, as well as offering driving tips.

Before each race you choose your pit strategy and tire compound - those with better short-term grip wear out quicker, especially if your driving style is aggressive. Wet racing is included, which requires much more careful driving and shrewd strategic choices as to which type of tires to use and when to pit to change them.

Download (PC) Need for Speed: High Stakes (1999)

The fourth game in the series, Need for Speed: High Stakes is for the most part a heavily updated version of Need for Speed III, once again featuring a host of exotic sport cars and tracks located in Western Europe and North America. Along with the courses and modes from Need for Speed III, NFS:HS also adds the new "High Stakes" mode along with two new pursuit modes: "Getaway" and "Time Trap".

Contained in the download below is the English release, along with patches to add Windows XP compatability.

This game has a few problems if installed on Windows XP, mainly crashing randomly during a race. A set of patches to fix these bugs (and allow you to run the game without a CD) is included in the "XP Compatability" folder. To apply these patches, follow the directions in the "!!Instructions!!.txt" file.

Also, for the best performance, make sure you run the "3D Device Setup" in the Start menu, and change from the software renderer to direct3d.
